چکیده
Front wings are a key element in the aerodynamic performance of Formula 1 race cars. Thus, their optimisation makes an important contribution to cars races. However, design is constrained by regulation, which it more difficult find good designs. The present work develops hybrid shape approach obtain optimal five-element airfoil front wing under FIA regulations and 17 parameters. A first baseline obtained parametric optimisation, on adjoint method applied for via Mesh Morphing with Radial Basis Functions. candidate outperforms up 25% at certain local positions. This shows that proposed tested can be very efficient alternative. Although direct 3D could developed, computational costs would dramatically increased (possibly unaffordable such complex realistic parameters regulatory constraints). strong interest if budget low and/or fast new desired, frequent scenario car design.

Formula 1 Race Car Design Takes Finite Element Analysis
Formula 1 or Grand Prix racing is known for its extensive use of advanced technology, huge monetary investment, and the attention-grabbing looks of its highly aerodynamic, open-wheeled race cars. According to F1 rules, each team must design and build its own car. This typically requires an investment upwards of $1 million for each car and an annual race team budget that can run in the $100s of ...
متن کاملTime-Discontinuous Finite Element Analysis of Two-Dimensional Elastodynamic Problems using Complex Fourier Shape Functions
This paper reformulates a time-discontinuous finite element method (TD-FEM) based on a new class of shape functions, called complex Fourier hereafter, for solving two-dimensional elastodynamic problems. These shape functions, which are derived from their corresponding radial basis functions, have some advantages such as the satisfaction of exponential and trigonometric function fields in comple...

An experimental study was performed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Low-Speed Wind Tunnel to quantify the performance and flowfleld effects of two-element open-wheel-race-car front wing configurations. Four distinct configurations were tested inand out-of-ground effect and at various speeds (Reynolds numbers), angles of attack, and flap positions. A splitter plate was installe...
